Simple characters
- Have overt agendas.
- Have appetites to satisfy in a physical universe.
- Are relatively unchanging throughout the length of the play. They do not learn from their mistakes!
- Are a product of their genes, of the masks they are born with.
- Are immediately recognizable by the audience.
- Populate naïve theatre forms such as commedia dell’ arte and melodrama.
- Are understandable using common sense.
- Are distinct from complex characters and paradoxical characters.
