Nervous laughter

Nervous laughter is very difficult to make work on the stage, probably because it is hard to distinguish between the character’s nervousness and the actor’s nervousness. Generally it is best to stay clear of it, except in the case of broad comedy where it can work if exaggerated in a clearly insincere way.
